Great Yarmouth & Waveney Mind (GYWM) provides services in the local community for people who experience or at risk of mental health issues. The organisation is affiliated to the national charity Mind and is one of 136 Local Mind Associations in England and Wales.
The community Roots Project is designed to provide a safe space community hub for people with mental illness or distress to enjoy an array of activities including horticulture; a range of other activity users and a space for anyone to enjoy. Community Roots aims to engage the community in activities which encourage community cohesion, transferable skills, positive wellbeing recovery and relapse prevention.
The principle foundation of the project is the 5 ways to wellbeing, activities will be designed around Green Spaces to include horticulture and nature and to bring the community together with a shared aim.
The project will also involve the creation of commercial ventures e.g. sale of horticulture/agriculture produce, handmade products – woodwork, needlecraft etc.
